Maryland Terrapins Online Sports Gambling
That settles it; Maryland is an elite program. Any way you cut it, if you win 31 games in three seasons playing in a BCS conference, you're among the best of the best. Ralph Friedgen and his staff have created a monster that's on the verge of even bigger things. The Terps have been winners, but they were also slight overachievers. The success of winning has opened up the doors to the world of the top recruits as there's more skill among the young players than there's been since the Bobby Ross days.
In the new world of the ACC, talent is key to try and stay in the conference title hunt. As good as things have been, the Terps haven't come close to beating Florida State under Friedgen losing three times by a combined score of 124 to 51. In the past, Maryland didn't have the athletes to face the Seminoles, but now the players are there to hang tough with them as well as all the other top teams.
So is this an ACC title-caliber team? Possibly if the fast, new prospects become top college football players right away. The schedule shapes up well and this is a program that knows how to win. At the very least, it's time to put Maryland in the upper-echelon of teams and just assume things will come together.
The Schedule: If Maryland is consistent and plays up to its talent level, this is an 10-1/9-2 schedule. The Terps don't have to play Miami and get Florida State and NC State at home. There's the brutal stretch of at Clemson, FSU, at Virginia and at Virginia Tech, but there's no reason UM can't win three of the four.
Best Offensive Player: Senior OG C.J. Brooks. Player Profile ... He should be playing in the NFL right now. Instead, he'll move from tackle to guard to give the Terps one of the most dominant linemen in the country.
Best Defensive Player: Senior CB Domonique Foxworth. He didn't put up the big numbers last year, but he's one of the most experienced corners in the country and has the overall skills to be considered a top pro prospect.
Key player to a successful season: The running game will be strong with a good group of backs operating behind an offensive line that'll turn out to be strong. The receiving corps is deep, so all that's missing is someone to run the show. Maryland quarterbacks haven't put up huge numbers, but they've found ways to win. Sophomore QB Joel Statham fits the mold and has better overall skills than anyone who's been under center for the last three years.
The season will be a success if ... the Terps finish second in the ACC. It's too much to ask to win the title, but there's no reason to finish anything less than second with the overall talent and the relatively easy schedule.
Key game: Oct. 23 at Clemson. Clemson is one of the other non-Florida ACC teams coming into the season thinking it has a shot at the title. the loser of this game will most likely be out of the race. With Florida State, at Virginia and at Virginia Tech coming up, this is a must win for the Terps.
